Debt Talks

This entire negotiation to raise the debt ceiling is good political theater, but an unfortunate political reality. The Dems have shown they are willing to play with a full deck (cuts and revenues), while the Republicans refuse to use all the tools presented to fix our chronic deficits. I hope the voters of this country understand the honest bargaining presented by one side, and the rigid politics being played by the other. When Minority Leader McConnell says “default is not an option” I wonder how many people believe that is his position, or that he is actually trying to achieve that goal. A lesson from the current political atmosphere is that the more extreme one side endeavors, the more extreme the opposition will go. However, in this case the extremism of the Republicans is still meant with compromise by the Democrats. For once the Democrats should be praised for their composure and sincerity in negotiating.
